What do I choose: open canoe, kayak or seakayak??
Well, let us say that usually a canoe is an open boat. You sit on your knees while you paddle and you use a paddle with one blade. Canoeists look in the direction they move, whereas rowers move backwards. An open canoe can also be called a Canadian canoe.
In a kayak, you are seated with your legs in front of you and you use a paddle with two blades ( origin inuït). And what about a seakayak? You can recognise it because it is longer and especially built to paddle over high waves.
Other differences have to do with luggage and environment. Whilst a seakayak is meant to travel light since storage space is rather limited, an open canoe can contain more packs. Moreover, the type of open canoe which we use is meant to paddle white water and rivers whereas seakayaks are meant for open water since they are faster and have the ability to keep a steady course. Canoes are more stable and very manoeuvrable however they are slower.
Instruction : Courses are given by experienced and trained canoe, kayak and seakayak instructors.
The school has been active for 15 years and Peter, the founder, started his instruction in Quebec and completed it in Canada, USA, Switzerland, France and the UK. The canoe instructors are mainly trained by Canad but they also develop their personal knowledge in other outdoor branches in Belgium and abroad. The seakayak instructors followed their training with the British Canoe Union.
The whole team ensures an efficient as well as agreeable learning path for each individual student. Being partners in work and life, Peter and Armelle, the very heart and soul of the school together with their team try to create time and again a kind hearted atmosphere in which each individual finds him or herself. They live according to the trappers' way of life: respect for nature, for the local people and for each living creature in its own singularity. The courses work out according to the rhythm of nature and the group
